| I usually don't name my fish beyond very simple changes to the common name (angelfishy, cory kitties etc.) but we have one named tank denizen.
Scoover - half scooter, half hoover, all snail. For some mysterious reason our Gold Mystery snail got a name. |

| Ive got 8 fish in my tank. My goldfish is called tiger, she has black gold and a hint of silver on her (my neice named her). My Moonlight Gourami is called Jawz, He is the eldest in the tank . My 2 Red Dwarf Gouramis are called Ganja and Jamaica, they are always causing trouble even though they are small! My Red Tailed Black Shark was called Sharky (R.I.P), He was really shy, but loved his plants! My Bristlenose Algae Eater is called Sucker. And my Angelfish is called Ahmed. My Clown Loach is Nemo, i was told to get more than one due to them being used to living in groups, but He has been extremely good. I just got a Male Fighting Fish too called Aqua, i know people will think its a strange mix of fish but they really get on great. Its about choosing the right fish. I name all my fish, even if i cant really tell the twins (Red Dwarf Gouramis) apart lol... Last edited by Jacqueline-93; June 27th, 2010 at 10:52 AM.

| Well personally I don't name any of my fish, I leave that job up to the grandkids. They seem to find it fun and they ask about them by name when they call me on the phone. Some of them are named names that I can hardly pronounce let alone spell and some I kind of like myself: Grandma (married her), Batty Catty (dated her), Sexy Moma (Wish I knew her), Pesky Jerk (Think that one is after me)......LOL |

| When prompted for input on fish names, I've stated several times to my family that: I do not name fish.
My wife and kids do though, and if I can remember what a specific fish is named I will try to refer to them by name.
Some of the names are appropriate and fitting, I have no problem using them.
Others outright annoy me. They named our little male guppy "Frozone"... |

| My fish don't come when they're called, so most don't get names. I can tell them all apart and refer to them by their characteristics.
One creamsicle molly is the evil molly because she's the boss, not that she's that aggressive. One is the pretty female who has the nicest finnage. One is the orange female because she has the nicest coloration. And one turns out to be a gold dust molly, so she's obviously the gold dust molly.
The fry ended up with names, though I don't use them that much. The one that was born pure gold with the best color is Gold, the one that had black speckles is Pepper, and the runt is Runt. All are full grown now, about the same size, and don't have any black markings but those are their names now.
My red male betta is always the red fishy. The turquoise one is Turk, which is obviously short for turquoise, although I don't use his name much either. |

Dont let him fool you! He told me he loved that name for our little icy blue guppy with some black spots on him.
Mine are all names after Disney movies, which honestly keeps the kids interested.
2 Dalmation mollies Perdita and Bolt
2 pure white mollies Snow White and Duchess
1 pure black mollie Maleficent
1 white with orange freckles and a black mohawk is Kokoum
3 platys all orange Cleo, Ariel, and Coral
3 guppies Jasmine (long black tail), Madam Mim (purple tail), and Frozone (icy blue with black spots)
4 hatchets Buck, Sid, Crash, and Eddie (not Disney I know but my 4 year old son loves Ice Age) |

| The big red Oscar is Henry about 12 to 13 inches, 55g alone
The other tiger Oscar is Opus about 9 to 10 inches, 90g
Big Jack, Jacqueline is about 7 inches (I think she is female), same 90g
Little Jack, baby 1 inch in May now about 5 inches name Jackery, loves crickets, same 90g.
The two have cleaned out a pot and do funny little dances with each other then sit next to each other in the pot.
Angle in a 15g, no name, no names for guppy's or other little fishes.
I am hoping to get pictures soon to post for all to see.
HM, Rupert my cat, Nellie my dog.

| My main (special) fish are named. For example...
My male GBR is Tyr. My female was Zroya (and when I get another female, she'll be named Zroya as well). My ryukin is Indiana Jones. My angelfish is Caius. My BN pleco is Percy. My SA bumblebee catfish is Grover. My featherfin catfish is Alistair. My horseface loach is Kyron. My betta girls are Rosalie and Esme. My betta boys are Amun, Jasper, Loki and Aidan. My clown pleco is Vidar. Only one of my albino cories is named (he was my first one and he's the smallest) and his name is Vladmir. My zebra nerite snail is Nitro.
I've also had bettas named Edward (have had 3 of those), Carlisle, Emmett, James, Laurent, Liam, Al, Bella, Siobhan, Victoria, Alice, Zafrina, Kachiri, and Kebi. |

| Basically if I can tell them apart on sight they get named. So the goldfish, bettas, platies and the mystery snail have names.... fish like the tetras, cories etc don't. I expect that if I ever get baby platies I'll give up on naming them, unless I get some that are fairly unique
When I got my goldfish I wasn't going to start naming fish... but then I had people like my aunt asking what I'd named them. ha ha--so then the first 3 became 'Thing 1, Thing 2 and Thing 3'. I still have 1 and 2 but after the summer in the pond I can't tell them apart anymore. The others all ended up with more original names then the first group |

| My kids have taken to naming our fish. Luckily, there is only 4 fish right now in the whole house... so it's easy to figure out "who" is "who".
There is: Poisson --- our crowntail male betta; Tetra --- the largest of our BST (he likes to stay in the cave); Flo --- BST that stays out in the open all the time, like he/she is dancing for us; Bubbles --- BST who hides out near the bubble wand at the back of the tank. |

| Of all my fish only 3 have names.
My electric blue Jack dempsey is named "Tonka". I named him that because his tank has playsand in it, and when we were buying the sand my hubby's manager (at the time he worked at lowes) asked us why we were getting that. Alex said it was for his tonka trucks in the sandbox. They thought we were serious. They still think we have a sandbox in the house.
The bettas are named Florence and Lawrence.
My old apple snail was named Fergason. |

| I have 3 goldies: Lovey, Zucchini, and Baby. Golden CAE is Champ.
8 neon tetras are The boys.
Zucchini got his name because he LOVES, guess?
Lovey was called Leader of the Pack, but changed to Lovey (always comes to see me and wiggle tail, very affectionate)
Baby is the smallest and needs to follow the others around, also very shy.
Champ got its name when the biggest fish, Zucchini was hogging his zucchini and Champ tried all day to steal away. He did it, after hours of trying. He got that zucchini food and took it down to the bottom.
Neon Tetras, well The Boys. (group name) |

| Personally, I don't have the time or desire to name my fish. but I have a 6 and 9 year old who feel it's critical to name them. They even keep the names written in a book.
They are thus called the following names:
Opaline Gourami - "Whiskers"
Pleco - "Alge"
AngelFish - "Finny"
Snail 1 - "Poke"
Snail 2 - "SlowPoke"
Parrot/RedDevil 1 - "Sunny"
Parrot/RedDevil 2 - "Dawn"
Parrto/RedDevil 3 - "Dusk"
My 6 Red Rosies are nameless because the look so much alike you can't tell them apart. |
