I'm getting upset with the setup of my new tank. I had planned it to be a Amazon biotope tank, I spent about $50 on plants alone last weekend for it in Milwaukee which is about a hour drive from my house. Now that I go to the only pet store in my town, their fish selection sucks and they don't have anything for plants. I'm thinking of just ditching the whole biotope idea and just do a community tank. What would you guys do?

Maybe you could order the fish you want online? You will have a much larger selection that way. I have never ordered fish online before, but I know others here have. Perhaps they can advise you better than I can.

I would say do what you need to do to be happy with your tank..I have to drive 2 hours 1 way to the nearest LFS. It stinks but i don't have a choice. If you'll be happy with a community tank then go that route..But if you don't want to settle and go with the Amazon biotope then you should make the drive or order online.

I have ordered online thru liveaquaria, ArizonaAqauticGardens, Pleco Superstore and some others. Usually you can find online coupons, recieve quatity discounts, etc. However, since most if not all animals are sent overnight, that can be expensive - weigh the cost versus gas. Plants can be shipped less expensively - in fact the plants i got for my biotope i had to order online. Will the pet store order for you -

yeah, i'd either order online or drive. but first ask your LFS if they are willing to get fish shipped in for you.....however, if the one near you isn't that great i'd be concerned that they weren't the healthiest.....so your best option is still probably to drive or order online

What kind of fish are you looking for?? there is a small petstore in manitowoc that has amazing angels The name of the store is colonial pets. They don't have a lot of fish either but what they have look good. ( at least they did everytime I have been in there...lol)

I have thought about ordering online, but that is just to much money for me to spend with shipping and other costs. I would drive into the city myself but I'm not sure I could handle driving in a big city just yet. I might give it a try in summer, maybe when I get a new car. I'll be sure to ask my LPS if they can order fish for me. Thanks for the suggestions!
