I need some help from a freshwater fish pro

I had 2 rummynose tetra, 1 big albino pleco, 1 adolescent chinese algae eater, and 1 small corydoras catfish who seems to zip around the tank all day long, up and down, side to side, chasing fish etc. I've never seen him actually hurt another fish, but he does chase them around quite a bit, and the others have never put up a fight. yesterday I bought 2 female guppies, 1 male guppy, and 2 little frogs. I woke up this morning to see my male guppy dead, his body is completely white, no color whatsoever, except the end of his body is black, where his big beautiful tail once was, is only now bones, the fins completely eaten off of them. This is tragic, and I want to know if female guppies ever do this to male guppies, and if not, then it probably means it was my Corydoras catfish, a likely story would be that the male guppy tried to rule the tank, which previously belonged to my cory, and he ate his fins while he was asleep.

What do you think?

out of any of that list, id say the chinese algae eater or the frog are the ones..although if it was sick, or injured anyway, any of those fish could have pecked off it after it had passed...cories by nature arent killers but they will scavenge

I thought that chinese algae eaters weren't aggressive when they were this little I'll have to take him back then I suppose, and is there anything I should do to calm down my Cory cat?

Buy him a couple of buddies. Corys are usually more happy in groups. Corys are active little guys at times though. Like Shawnie I can't see him hurting another fish but he will scavenge whatever he finds dead.

I would take the CAE back and get 3 more cories...lucy is a pro on the froggies but I do remember when my girls had them, they would eat live fish if they can catch them...so watch them closely

well I was hesitant about getting more cories, because I did use to have 2, and the last one turned up dead one morning, for an inexplicable cause, and he never interacted with the other one. although that cory was about 3.5 - 4 inches, much larger then the one I still have, who is about 1 inch, so it could have been old age?

alright shawnie, thanks for the advice, I'll do that, brb gonna talk to my mom and then head to the store, oh and should I wait on the three CC's? because I just added those 2 frogs and 3 guppies yesterday, and I don't want to overload my tank too much, but I can take the CAE back today.

Overload the filter*

Corys don't usually get 4 inches. could it have been Brochis splenden instead?

Corys are very sensitive to water conditions also. a school of three or more would be good for your remaining cory. They are cute little guys and a great addition to your tank. I have kept them for years and not had them bother any of my other fish from fry to large fish.

YES ! THATS IT! although none of the colors in those photos matched him, he did look very similar to a cory as far as coloration, but that body type looks like him, for sure.

And I am reluctant to taking back my corydoras, as I have had him since I started my tank, and I do like him, and since he more than likely isn't responsible for the deaths, I would hate to have to take him back. Since the male guppy is dead and the CAE will be taken out, then does that mean I might be able to add two Cories?

It has not been mentioned yet so I will, did you get dwarf frogs or clawed frogs?

I'm really sorry about your guppy.
Frog's will snatch at what the think is food. They're eyesight up close isn't terrific so it's possible that your little guppy swam by and one of the frogs grabbed him.

Edit:

A pic would help. African Dwarf Frogs are very peaceful and wouldn't purposely go after fish. They're slow to find food so when they're in a community tank with fast moving fish you have to be diligent about making sure they're getting food. Going as far as hand feeding them with blunt tweezers or better yet a turkey baster.
African Clawed Frog will eat fish, that's what they do. lol
