| Angelfish in Trouble One of my angelfish has somehow managed to wedge herself into the middle of a piece of drift wood. (There was a pretty big hole in it that she never went near before and now I came home from work and found her stuck). I dont know how long she has been in it for and I am really starting to worry.
I have taken the wood out of the tank and submersed it in a small bucket and am trying to get her out... but I don't know what to do.
Any suggestions? Last edited by cognizant; February 2nd, 2009 at 07:39 PM.

| Is she acting any differently? Swimming sideways? Staying near the bottom? |

| If you can't get her out then you might have to split the wood. Be careful though. |

| I am trying to cut the wood with a pair of plyers, but it is so thick its not even breaking anymore. |

| Plyers won't do it. The wood will be waterlogged and swollen. The only way will be to split it, with a chisel. |

| Oh my goodnes. Poor thing. I'm surprised moving the wood didn't make her get just enough wiggle to get out.
Have you tried to get her moved a little with your finger? If not backward or forward but upright?
Maybe not the best idea, but I'd be looking for the hacksaw. |

| Poor thing! Yeah, sounds like you are gonna have to split the wood! Do you have a hatchet? Ever split kindling before? You do it gently and the wood will split slowly. What does your driftwood look like?
Edit: oh good idea, Nick Goody, use a chisel!!! Last edited by AlyeskaGirl; February 2nd, 2009 at 08:11 PM.

| Well I got her out! Thank god.
She is on the bottom of her tank now, not moving much. It looks like her top and bottom fins (sorry, i'm too stressed to even think about proper terminology) may be broken. They are sticking straight back instead of pointing up and down.
Now I am worried she isn't going to make it. What should I do? Is there anything I can do?
I threw the wood out. I'm never getting anything with a hole in it (no matter how large) again. I don't care if fish like hiding. |

| Poor thing. You must be so worried. I'm glad you got her out.
Give her sometime, she's gotta be really stressed after such an ordeal. Good luck, I hope she perks up for you. |

| Oh that's great! Add some Stress Coat to the tank if that's what you use to help her. |

| Poor baby..I would like suggested treat your water with some stress coat and just keep her water extra clean to prevent any infection...Give her some time to see if she'll come around..So sorry that happened to your Angel..Good job at getting her out. |

| I just wanted to update everyone.
She seems to be doing fine now, her fins are beginning to perk up. I did notice that a piece of her tail seems to be missing though. So I am going to be doing a few extra water changes this week.
Is there anything special I can do for the tail? |

| Thanks everyone.
Quick question. I wasn't able to get to the petstore for stress coat because we are completely covered in snow. (it hasn't stopped in 2 days!) Would I be able to use AquaSafe in place of stress coat until I can get to the store tomorrow? |
