5 gallon not betta friendly?

The five gallon i set up is still cycling, but i noticed that there are two major problems that need to be remedied...

1. The outflow current from my aquatech 5-15 looks WAY too strong, even for a strongly built, healthy female betta. Is there something i could do to reduce some current?

2. The water temperature isn't in that betta range of 80-82, but rather at 74, and most likely cooler in the night, when the lights aren't on.

you can put some sponge or stuffin in and around the filter..and do you have a heater? if so, you may need a new one to hold the temps better....stealth makes great ones and they are affordable

yup. its a Hydor mini for tanks 2-5 gallons. I'm second guessing my choice of heater.

Actually, the heater in mangos tank is a Tetra 2-15 heater, 50 watt i think. Could i swap the two heaters around?

I have the same filter.
I shoved some filter up media up the out take so it hangs in the water, it was kept in place by a plastic plant I shove in there. High tech huh? lol

I use 50W visi-therm stealth in my 5g's. They work great.

I think I have a pic of my filter somehwere, I'll post it if you want to take a look.

Here ya go, fancy stuff, huh? The water trickles down the media rather than cause a current. I hope it helps

What heater will Mango have?

he'll have the one in the 5 gallon (hydor mini). I would guess if the heater in the five gallon is low, then the heating temperature will be higher in a smaller body of water (Mango's tank).

Since Mangos Tetra heater heats up about 84, the temperature should be better in the five gallon than what it has with the hydor mini. Worth a try.

yeah, that should work (switching them i mean). i have the same heater (the hydor mini) and it really only heats about 6ish degrees above room temp, luckily my room temp is about 70 so it works well for me, but if your house/apt/place of residence etc. is really cold, then it'll be about 5-6 degrees above that

I have the same tank and filter, and I found that any heater less than 25W doesn't keep the temperature stable enough. Hydor mini Theo 25W is really good, it's small enough to fit nicely.
