| Whoa...you think I could keep one in my 55 gallon community? |

| Haha.
Not unless your 55 gal. community could hold a 10 ft. fish.
And I don't think there would be much of a community left.
lol
He doesn't look too social. |

| haha....maybe you're right. That fish could eat all my fish in a single bite. Actually, that fish could probably eat my whole tank in one bite, and then the stand in the second bite...lol |

| I hope so too!
The sad part is, I've read where people have kept that fish in a fish tank, as juviniles.
That's worse than a common pleco! |

| That looks like an alligator gar, they get scary big! They look scary!
They are protected in TN waters. They do swim where I live, and needle nose gar as well. Needless to say, its swiming pool and water parks only for us. I did grow up swimming in the lake here off of a houseboat. |

| Yeah, it's an alligator gar.
I was bored & was googling them.
That was the best pic I found.
They may be protected, but I'd never mess with them either way.
This may be a reason that they have to be protected: Last edited by Amanda; January 15th, 2009 at 08:20 PM.

| Good grief. I had to take a 2nd look at that picture because I thought it was an alligator the first time I saw it.
GEEZ.
I would never go swimming. The fish in the lakes around here are smaller and friendly. That one doesn't look so friendly. |

| The funny thing about them is they don't go after humans, they actually are pretty peaceful around humans.
I have played around with them while fishing on the lake throwing minnows out to them to watch them eat. I have only heard of one incident where a human got hurt from one, and they had been dangling their foot in the water where they were after small fish, and lost a toe. |

It's sad though, b/c what person can take care of that fish? They're just going to dump it in a lake or river. |

| Ya know these MONSTER fish have been around forever, that's why they are so big, It takes a long time for these monsters to grow this big. It's kinda sad that they are being caught, I say if a fish has made it for that long leave it be, give it some respect. |

Can you imagine the offspring these fish could produce? I saw a pic of fishermen reeling in a 100 year old sturgeon. I mean, come on. Leave it alone. |

| People fishing for sturgeion kills me! They are a prehistoric fish that IMO should not be bothered. They have been working the past few years in TN to repopulate them.
The only fish I catch is the ones we plan on eating or will give someone to eat. We will catch and release if its too small, so it has a chance to grow much larger.
Fishing for monster fish is just cruel. |

| The Hudson is supposedly known for its sturgeon. Although I have no idea how anything can survive in there anyway. |
