read about cycling the tank Aquarium nitrogen cycle, ugh horrible at trying to help 'link' things. It is on the fishlore home page. test your water,,, see if your ammonia, nitrites, and possibly your nitrates(which isn't as bad, but if they're too high it isn't good), then do a partial water change. Water changes are the best way to help clear things up,,,but remember, just a partial water change. Good Luck,,, and happy reading

I notice your tank has been up for 2 years. Is this the first time this has happened ? Have you changed anything lately ?
How long had the plant you pulled been in place ?

yes this is the first time this has happened. Outside of taking the plant out I have not changed the tank set up at all. I keep the temp at 80 and add the required amount of solutions when i do water changes.

Were you sterile when you went in to the tank to withdraw the plant? Something could/may have piggy backed in with you upon tanking out the plant? Unlikely but possible. I know I've freaked myself out a few times by seeing dog hairs in the tank then realizing i didn't wash my hands before I put my arm in the tank. (yes I play with our dogs a lot ;p )

Doesn't sound like your tank is in a cycle, rather something has built up somewhere. White-like algae is definitely weird too. Are you sure they aren't bugs? Can you take a closer look?

How long where you on vacation ? Who did water changes while you were gone ? Have they done water changes before ? Has the shrimp thing been in your tank before ?

Ok so I paniced for nothing...I evidently stired up the floor when removing the plant thing. But on a better note we almost have our new tank stand done. We are building a stand that will hold two 55 gallon tanks, two 10 gallon, and a five gallon. When we get it finished up I will post more pictures.

Fantastic stand! So did everything calm back down in the tank? It sounds like you also might need to vacuum if just removing a plant stirred up stuff that clung to the wall. Just a thought.
Can't wait to see your finished pictures.
