LFS return Policy

When I was returning my Dwarf Gourami (because he was sick)..I read their return policy..Along with your fish you must bring a another container with tank water in it and they will test it...If your tank water test with 0 ammonia, 0 Nitrites, and 0 Nitrates..Then they will return your fish...
I asked if she'd ever come across a cycled tank with 0 Nitrates..She said if you keep a clean tank you should have 0 Nitrates...Does anyone here have 0 Nitrates??

If the tank is planted it's possible to have 0 nitrates. Mine's not planted, I always have some nitrate reading.

My nitrates always run at 10 in all 14 tanks including my salt tank....I keep my water extremely clean....

I have nitrates in my tap..She didn't say anything about planted either..just if you kept a clean tank..Honestly I think it's just a way to not have to return fish..I'm sure she hasn't come across many if any tanks that have 0 Nitrates..The next time I buy a fish I will be testing their water..

They have this policy at my petco, but when I got my refund on my sweet Rodya they told me that this policy doesn't apply to bettas. I was very angry. Apparently they don't care if you kill a betta with ammonia poisoning.

They did replace Rodya... with Dmitri, who died the same way a week or two later but on the receipt it says to bring in a sample of your tank water with any dead fish. What made me mad is that they said that their policy applied to all fishexcept bettas... like it doesn't matter if they are kept in crappy water...

I have nitrates in my tap. I have plants. I have nitrates in my tank. You have to have a severely understocked, extremely heavily planted tank to end up with no nitrates.
Even if you do daily water changes, there's going to be some in the tank.

Well, they do use test strips to test the water anyways, so maybe it always comes up as 0 nitrates

just bring in a sample of tap water...they won't know, and you'll skirt that ridiculous refund policy.
