live and learn

There are always a few things that everyone has to learn the hard way. I am home for christmas and my tanks stayed in stoon under the watchful eye of my boyfriend. All is well. I got the timer I needed for two of my tanks and had that all set up. I left content that the fish would be fine. One thing I was slightly uneasy about... Ray had one last treatment of meds and then needed a water change the next day. My guy said no problem he had it under control.

I guess that's famous last words isn't it? I had a dentist appointment in the city yesterday so I stopped at the house (it's been a little over a week since I left) to do some water changes and feed everyone (3rd day after I left my bf had to go home for a few days, comes back tonight). So I walk into my room and low and behold... The tanks on timers, are thick with algae and Ray has a nice red water....

I took him out (he's fine) and scrubbed his tank, 100% water change, and rinsed his filter in over dechlorinated water. Hopefully there was no real damage done, he looked happy and fine when I left. I don't know what the mystery algae was, it was a thick gross matt however. I think the timer's are fixed now (boyfriend has promised to go and check this time to make sure.

How did he get the red water... the boyfriend forgot to do a water change.
Only one week left before I'm home again, hopefully there aren't any other issues...

Red water is weird. That's a new one!
I'm glad everyone is fine, I'm sure you're relieved.

He was getting the same food he always was so I don't know. The only thing that I could think of was the meds... Could have been something else as well though.

I find you need to leave people very precise instructions, IN WRITING. otherwise they'll goober it up or forget to do things....like change the water, lol.

Usually i do but I was scrambling as I left, and I sent an email with everything written down, which he apparently read then forgot. Oh well, it happens. Ray's tail is make to looking like pot again now that I'm back home... this boy refuses to grow it out nice.
