| Favorite non-animal protein? Just curious about folks' favorite protein that comes from plants. You don't have to be vegetarian to enjoy tofu now and then, so this thread is open to all members (especially considering it's being started by an omnivore such as myself).
Be as general or as specific as you want.
My wife really likes MorningStar Farms Mealstarters, the chicken and the steak flavors.
This is for amusement and to broaden the palate (mine, at least), so please, no debating diet choices in here. |

| My fiancee is vegetarian.
I feel sometimes that I should eat twice as much meat to compensate - but sometimes when we eat the same thing we have "Quorn"
It's like synthetic meat and it made from mushroom proteins I think...
the following is from Wiki: Quorn is the leading brand of mycoprotein food product in the UK[1] and a leading brand elsewhere.[citation needed] Mycoprotein is a generic term for protein-rich foodstuffs made from processed edible fungus.
Quorn is produced as both a cooking ingredient and a range of ready meals. Quorn is sold (largely in Europe but also in other parts of the world) as a healthy food and an alternative to meat, especially for vegetarians. As it uses egg white as a binder, it is not suitable for vegans.
It's quite nice, funny texture but very tasty!

| I'm a vegetarian, I only eat animals that eat grass.
Really, I suffer from gout, so I need to watch what I eat.
Nuts are good, beans are good but can start the gout. |

I love it on celery or granny smith apples. Quote:

| Im big on cheese. Nothing like milk protein. Its not meat, but it is veggie(just not vegan). A nice aged Gruyere or fresh Havarti with a bright california wine and I am a happy boy. Last edited by KyWildFish; December 16th, 2008 at 07:40 PM.

| Non-animal, which I guess cheese is animal, would have to be Roasted Salted Almonds. I eat a ton of them. Sorry SDS, didnt read the title well enough.
....I still like cheese..... |

| Quorn's tasty. It's the only thing that comes anywhere near the texture and taste of the old processed chicken patties that many schools used to (and may still) sell.
No worries on the cheese thing. It is tasty, and, while from an animal, fits the vegetarian profile, so we'll give it a "glass half full" rating. |

| I think burritos are good, you get the whole protein shebang there with beans and rice. I am vegetarian, and I live on fake BLT's. My absolute favorite brand is Smart Bacon. I think it tastes better than real bacon (my friends and parents say I'm nuts) but real bacon takes the cake for smelling good. I don't like most vegetarian makes of meat foods, but I will eat the corn dogs and the chicken nuggets. I cant tell the difference there between it and the real thing. But the Morning Star burgers and stuff are just revolting. |

| Another favorite of mine is almonds. I've grown very fond of unroasted, unsalted almonds. I have to have something with them, usually some kind of dried fruit, but they're really tasty.
P.S. Remember, folks, this thread is here to give your favorite sources of vegetable protein. There's a huge vegetarian debate elsewhere if you wish to join such a discussion. |
