HELP 1st Fish Fight? Angelfish vs Tang?

Ok current fish list..........(2) clownfish both 2" long, (1) damsel 2" long, (1)bi-color dottyback 2 1/2" long, (1) banded goby 4" long, (1) blue tang 4 1/2" long, and finally (1) yellow tang 6" long.

Ok I just went and got my next to last fish. A $$$$ French Angelfish, as soon as this fish hits the water all the fish put thier fins up like always. But the yellow tang takes a few snaps at the Angelfish with his mouth, and doenst stop. So I currently have the yellow tang floating in a bag in the tank. He seems fine. Im thinking if I leave him in the bag maybe he will get use to the Angelfish then I can let him go??

Good Idea or should I return the Yellow Tang so I can keep this angelfish. This tang seems to be aggressive once in awhile and I sure dont want him destroying this angelfish, but I would like to keep them both. Or am I just over reacting?

As I speak the bicolor dotty just took a small nip at the angel grrrrrrr......

Im primarly worried about the yellow tang because of his size difference.

Please any ideas? Thanks?

Your tank likely has some very defined territories and adding a fish is disrupting that.

Ok well I just added the last (4) live rock and moved all the rock around, but the yellow tang is still in his "timeout" bag. I threw in an airstone for him for good measure.

What to do What to do now??

Shuffling everything around like you did may make the tang feel like he is in a new environment and may reduce aggression some. I'm not entirely sure if it will stop all agression or not though.

As an aside, the angel you picked out has a tendency to be agressive towards other fish and will eventually try to dominate the tank.

ugh.... the compatibility charts show that im cool. If anything according to them I need to worry about the (2) tangs together. I plan on moving all of these fish to a 125 gallon in about 3 months. Then they will have plenty of room. I just wish they would get along until then. I definatly dont want to come home to a dead fish.

The yellow tang looks like the one trying to domiate the tank.

How about I start drinking beer and just flip a coin.

Lol, that could work. I'm looking in to started a 75g FOWLR in about 6 months to a year from now so i've been doing tons of research. I wanted the angel you have right now initially till I found out how gigantic they get as adults.

Have you tried to tang back in the tank now that the rock is shifted around? Also, when you introduce new fish do you turn the lights off? I understand that introducing new fish can be made easier if you turn off the lights a bit before introduction as it will reduce stress.

No, but the lights are off now its their bedtime. But thanks for that tip. Ill try that one next time.

I guess I will just turn him lose tomorrow and hope he doesnt eat the angelfish. It looks as though he left a small mark on him already. Nothing major one that should heal quickly. I think this tang is the one who killed my crab, and gave the bicolor dotty back a good ol fashion ass whoopin. What a beautiful fish though. ugghhhhh!

Well I turned him lose, and he seems more worried about looking around then bothering the angelfish. I think he sees me holding a plastic bag and has learned his lesson. He does give the angel a tail whip when he gets to close, but im not worried about that. At least hes not trying to eat the angel now. Ill keep a close eye on them for awhile.
