I have a sick pleco :(

ok, so i have a pleco that is about 4 inches long, in a 35 gal. tank. She has been upside down at the bottom of the tank for over a week. She will flip herself over occationally to eat. She hasnt been eating well, but is still feeding. Also, she will swim around the tank. She has been right side up now for almost a whole day, but i am still worried and confused. My other fish are fine, and just wonder what could be wrong with her. if anyone has any ideas on how to help her or to heal her, let me know. I have asked many pet stores and none of them seem to understand. they assume she is dying (and so do i) but would have predicted it long ago, not living 2 weeks.... please help.

Hi welcome to Fish Lore,

I'm sorry your fish isn't feeling well.

How many and what kind of fish are in the tank?
What are your readings for ammonia, nitrite and nitrates?
What temperature is the tank?
Are any other fish showing any signs of illness?

I'm sorry for all the questions. The answers will help the other members try to figure out what's wrong.

Good luck.

welcome to fishlore!! by your aquarium info, I think it might be ammonia...how often do you do water changes? how long has the carbon been in the filter? after getting some readings as lucy suggested, daily water changes with some prime conditioner should perk her up a bit...
