75 gallon set up

Hello all,

Well, my bf just brought me home a 75 gallon aquarium - just an aquarium. Ive been wanting a bigger tank for a while. I currently have a little 2.5 gallon a 10 gallon and a 25 gallon that are housing a beta and some freshwater fish.

I need some help. All of my tanks came in a kit with everything all included, filtration, canopy, lighting, etc.

What exactly do I need so I don't leave anything out? Im not setting up until we move after January so I have some time to collect (it's going to be hard but I can do it).

Thanks in advance!

Well a good start would be a hood with florescent lighting...what kind of lighting depends on whether you are going to have live plants or not...a good heater rated for the size of the tank...some people think you should have 2 heaters rated for 1/2 the volume of the tank to prevent over heating in case of a failure. A good filter is a must...the bigger the better imho. I love the aquaclear filters personally. Those are the main things...then you need to figure out substrate..again that depends on live plants or fake. Look at different colors of gravel. I have 5 tanks with different ones and by far love the look of my black gravel the best....ornaments ,background,plants....and best of all...FISHHH!!! ...ummm... did I leave anything out??

Geeze I did leave out a very important thing...lol..the stand.. make sure it is a very sturdy piece of furniture or better yet a stand that is built to withstand the weight of a full tank.

Oh, and in addition, a thermometer to keep track of temps. Probably really obvious, but I'll just throw it in anyways... I use those thin ones that stick to the glass.

First, Congratulations on your nice new BIG tank!
To add to your list. . .
You should invest in a Python hose to remove, clean and replace water. They work great!
You just need to know the distance from your faucet to tank. Make sure you have the right kind of faucet that will accept their adaptor. (take a very close look at you faucet)
If you need to, like my mom did, you may need to go to a plumbing supply place to get parts to help you make it work. (she has an older home so we had some things to work out) Otherwise as you know you'll be hauling buckets, and for a 75 you don't want to do that!
