Fish Dilemma

I dont know what to do with my tanks.

I have a 55 that is about to be unstocked, more than likely going to use as a fry tank now. I just made my 29 angel breeder. I just bought my 20 long SW and all the equipment. I am selling my 10 with the betta and some plants.

So I have an empty 29 I want to set it up like the angel breeder 29 - sig if you haven't read about it yet. But I don't know what will breed in there other than angels. I thought about discus but since I just bought all that stuff I just can't afford them.

So what do you suggest to breed in a 29 tall? - no africans

Input would be nice.

What kind of water do you have (or can you make)?
If you can pull off the acidic, soft Amazonian water, there are all sorts of tetras you could breed. Downside: They're common at pet stores. Upside: The one's sold at pet stores aren't captive bred and tend to be poorly cared for.
I've thought about breeding tetras before, but I just can't get the water quality right until I buy an RO unit.

What about rainbows?

There are some really pretty rainbows around, i have bosemani and they are cool and they are not over common (unless im in the wrong area).

I want a larger fish. Just no angels, discus or malawis.

Somewhere between 4" and 7".

Now Cory, those Pike Livebearers were between 4" and 7" full size.

(Sorry buddy, I couldn't resist. )

what about trying out gouramis?

Breeding pearl or dwarf gouramis has to be fun and rewarding.

or chocolate gouramis are a tad smaller but mouth brooders which could be really cool.

Not a big gourami fan. Looking for more of a unique species.

Good idea though.

You could go with a pair of Gymnogeophagus or you could breed rams or kribs........

If you don't want to spend the money on a breeded pair of discus, you could always get a group of young discus and grow them out in the 29 to get a pair. That would be a lot cheeper than getting a fully mature proven pair.

If you want to breed a tropical fish the Asian glass catfish is somethink unusual. I have only see it in 1 shop and I have been to a lot.

lol I think that you'd need more then a 20 for a RTS breeding experiment . One day when I'm out of university I'm gonna try that but i'll be a really big tank with a whole lotta Reds...
You could try dwarf puffers? I don't think that I've heard of many people having luck breeding them.
