What are these red... blossoms?

A strange looking spore type thing has appeared on my fake plant, it resembles, somewhat, a red sea urchin I suppose, it's on the edge of my fake plant's leaves. What is this stuff?

I assume it's some sort of algae, but I didn't know algae could look this complex without a microscope, any feedback would be nice.
