Carbon in my biotope?!?!?

Hi everyone

Just a little worry here, im pretty sure people have said to me before that crabon takes away the colour of blackwater biotopes and reverses all the affects your trying to create.

Carbon being in part of the filter media in my new filter thats jsut arrived so im not sure whether to start it up?

Cheers

Sam

If you dont' want the carbon, it's usually very easy to remove. What kind of filter is it?

Well carbon is meant to clarify the water. But most members here usually only recommed using it to remove medications from the water. I think it'd be better to just toss the carbon.

Yer ive managed to get out most of it!

Was a pretty terrible design.

Will it matter if theres a couple of bits left in??

It would be best to get all of it out.
The thing about carbon is that when it expires, it will release all the toxins it has collected back into the water all at once.
If it's a really small amount though, I wouldn't worry too much about it. Just get out all you can.

Alright

Well it really is two little peices!

The thing is that the polyester is almost stapled ove rthe top of the shallow container that has the carbon bits in it!!

So if i try and get the last bits i dont think the pad will go back on properly

Cheers

Well if it's just two itty bitty pieces then I wouldn't be concerned.
Good luck

Basically you just need to rinse them off (with dechlorinated water) gently every time you do a water change. If the pad starts falling apart, then that's really when you need to change it.
