Paradise Fish

Hey is anyone familiar with Paradise fish? I saw one today and now I've gotten curious.

I've done my fair share of researching on these fish. I guess they can stand pretty darn cold temps and they get to like, 4 inches long. They are kind of like betta fish in the way that 2 males shouldnt be housed together. But you should do what I do most of the time....

They are fairly aggressive with their own kind and blow bubble nests like Bettas. They also have a labyrinth organ like Bettas and need to be able to get to the surface to breathe.

i had a male and female paradise fish and they constantly chased my other fish, i had to seperate them from the others. the male then started picking on the female and before i could get a new tank set up she died. (im pretty sure the male killed her). as pretty as they are i wont be keeping any more paradise fish.

It says 2.5g for a single male. I would say 10's enough. think of it as a coldwater betta

Your bowl sounds a little small for a paradise fish, Chase. Does it have a filter?

I see you also have a goldfish in a 1 gallon bowl (if your aquarium info is correct, that is). Goldfish actually have large bioloads, and don't do well in bowls. The general guideline is 20 gallons for the first goldfish and 10 gallons for each additional goldfish. So, you may want to consider getting larger homes for your goldfish and your paradise fish.

Well I Know The Goldfish Is Supposed TO Be In A Bigger Tank But He Has Been Alive and Well For almost a year and a half now. But No Neither Have a filter and my whole tank is on the verge of collapsing. There are no nitrates at all... is that bad

Paradise fish are agressive, a lot like male betta (they are gouramies). That is why when you get one for a community tank you want to make sure the tank is big and that there is plenty of room for it to make its territory and others to get away. Its kind of a hit and miss.

I have been planning on my stocking for my 55 and I was thinking of a paradise fish. Nevertheless, I am still kind of reluctant due to the agressiveness.

I don't think you should quit.
I think you should get your existing tank cycled. Take back the paradise fish and get a proper home or find a proper home for your gold fish.

Fish Keeping is a very enjoyable hobby but you have to take things slow, do research and not buy fish on impulse.

You can do it. Just get your existing tank on the right track. You'll be enjoying this wonderful hobby in no time.

Chase, I started a new thread for you for your cycling question.
Chase J's cycling question

Red's original question had been answered long ago.
