Pity buy or not to pity buy?

That is the question. For months I've been ogling the 2 surviving splendid rainbows at my local wal-mart (originally 3 but one died the first week). Now I was just there the other day and there's only one left. I'm almost 100% sure that nobody bought just one of them but who knows. I know that they're schoolers and like to be in groups of at least 3 but I haven't seen anywhere else around here carry them and I feel really bad for the little guy... sigh... what to do...
If he can hold out till I get the 30 gal then maybe...
I'm a sucker for pity buys.

I don't know what a spendid rainbow is.

But ask yourself these questions, can your tank handle it?
If it needs the extra work, are you willing and able to do it?
Will it be better off with you than in the store?

I think you've already made up your mind.

Melanotaenia splendida splendida

Right now it's in a (5? 10?) gal with a bunch of congo tetra's.

Why pass Dino?

I know this is off topic, but that's the fish I have been trying to decipher in the tank they have in work! Glad I stumbled across this post and sorry I can't offer any advice.

Buying fish that are sick or from tanks that you know have had fish deaths due to illnesses is just asking for trouble.

So never buy from a pet store again?

None of the fish look sick. But you do have a point. Also I'm not sure why they're gone/dying they could have been bought.

We have bought 2 petstore fish in the past year.
A swordtail and a platy.
Knowing what goes thru the larger chain/retail stores, I would be VERY careful what I brought home.

Unless you are lucky and have someone in their pet department who knows what they are doing, which I have found to be very very rare.

Sorry to have jumped on the pass thing, but when I see Walmart and fish, in my case, it is not worth the risk and hassel.

I can't argue that too much. Wal-mart doesn't have a good track record.
