I agree, CindyJ. I think the unsolicited advice is great, as long as it is presented nicely, but when the original question is ignored, I really feel sorry for the person who asked. Especially when it is possible the unsolicited part has already been discussed, but the poster is trying to make do until the situation can be remedied.
Using myself as a hypothetical example:
My tanks are not correctly stocked, due to circumstances currently beyond my control. Fortunately, this hasn't happened, but I would not have been surprised if I created a thread and someone jumped on me for it. "Never mind the filter issue! You need to rehome fishX and get some friends for fishY, etc." Sadly, I have seen this happen to others.
