I didn't think it was very nice that he got jumped like that.

I agree, CindyJ. I think the unsolicited advice is great, as long as it is presented nicely, but when the original question is ignored, I really feel sorry for the person who asked. Especially when it is possible the unsolicited part has already been discussed, but the poster is trying to make do until the situation can be remedied.

Using myself as a hypothetical example:

My tanks are not correctly stocked, due to circumstances currently beyond my control. Fortunately, this hasn't happened, but I would not have been surprised if I created a thread and someone jumped on me for it. "Never mind the filter issue! You need to rehome fishX and get some friends for fishY, etc." Sadly, I have seen this happen to others.

I know a lot of people on here ignore the conventional molds of fishkeeping...another person may come along and see that one person has 6 goldies in a 20 gallon and say well I should be able to do that to. They don't relize that the experienced fishkeeper has a filter rated for a 100 gallon tank on there 20 and that they do 25% water changes every 2 days. I guess what I am trying to say is what works for the experienced fishkeeper may not work for the novice and you can't tell experience level from reading the tank info. So to jump someone because they have 6 golds listed in a 20 gal would be wrong when they are asking about switching from gravel substrate to marbles...lol. ( any resemblance to a real question on here is purely coincedental)...lol

It reminds me of calling tech support. They won't talk to me about the monitor that is engulfed in flames until I upgrade the drivers for my network card.

I honestly think that people want others to tell them its okay to put an oscar w/ a goldfish (I know that is going overboard w/ an example). They just want someone to say well they told me it should work.

I agree that there are people who do this... but that is besides the point, it still doesnt give anyone the right to be rude to them. If you see someone doing this then just ignore them... obviously they dont want or care about the correct answer, so why bother... problem solved =)
