pics from the smokies, mother bear with cubs,

So when I'm able to use the computer with the pictures on it I'll post some each time. My mom is studying for her state licsense test which costs 500$ so she gets priority on this computer because it has her programs on it. I'll start out showing you some of the mother and bear cub pics my dad and I got when they finally crossed the path in front of us.

We have bears spotted in the town a mile or so away from here, 2-3 times a year.
Course, I live 8 miles away from the park, too.

Sometimes a bear will wander down into the city here. A friend's daughter was so excited when one ran through their backyard.

great pics, please tell me that wasn't in cades cove? the park rangers will attack people over getting close to the bears. when I wnet down there a couple years ago we almost witnessed a bear attack over some cubs (luckily we were in the car unlike the others) The park ranger had to run everyone off. we do have some bear attacks in east tn.

we don't see much bears in our neck of TN however we do have some elk that are wandering accross the mtn to our area, I have some wonderful pics of them on my comp that is crashed right now..

Awesome pictures. It's been years since I've had a chance to see bears. I once got to share a bay on a lake with a momma bear and her cubs. Aside from tearing our tents down once to see if there was any food in them, and visiting us when we were making pork chops, she left us alone.

No they won't (at least not black bears). The cubs have a better defense than Mom can ever provide: they can climb like monkeys. Mom, meanwhile, will run for her life from humans.
Attacks are usually over food (bears become inured to people's presence because they equate people with food. Thus, the bear doesn't run when people approach. So when people get too close, and get within the bear's personal space, it attacks.)

Wow more comments than I expected. Well to sum it up I saw three bears while at the smokies. Once in cades cove, in which the bear cubs were running up the trees and the mother was running from the road. Another time while I was running in the park. We stayed in a cabin on the border and a trail from the park went right past our cabin so I ran on that trail. While I was running I heard a bunch of rustling and not far off from the path was a bear looking for food and moving so I decided not to run in that area anymore. When we saw this group of bears we were at laurel falls, we went beyond the falls and on our way up we saw the cubs and her mom fairly far off the trail so we kept on hiking. On our way back we saw them again except they were moving parallel to the trail, towards a turn in the trail so we waited and they sure enough crossed the trail right in front of us. The mother bear came out onto the trail and looked at us and didn't care that we were there and what appeared to go back off the trail and get her cubs and then cross the trail. We were 40-50ft. away. Far enough that the mother didn't feel threatened considering she looked at us and continued on her way. We have been close to bears in the grand tetons before so it actually wasn't anything new, it was nice though that they stopped on the trail for awhile so we could get pictures. Last time I was at the smokies a cub crossed the path right in front of us and that was a little scary because he was so close and we didn't know where the mother was.

That's cool Dino, we talked to a park ranger and she had just spotted a bear in her backyard, though I'm not sure how far she was from the park.

These four pictures were taken by my dad with his nikon, don't remember the model but I can get that with a zoom lens. He didn't get a big enough bag to carry a zoom lens and the lens it came with so he actually only takes pictures with his zoom lens. He has to get a bigger bag haha.

I'm working on resizing pictures now and uploading them.

We are about 60 miles south west of Cades Cove.

We try to get there a few times a year about twilight.
We have seen hundreds of deer and up to 14 bear in one evening.
