I could scream! We always end up going to this one store, just because thats the only place in the area that has my eheim supplies, w/o me paying the shipping. Well, we stepped into the fish part, and asked the manager about getting in cichlids. Hes like, yeah we can get any african cichlid you want. So I asked him, how about a trio of red top hongi. His response, well I dunno, prob not that one...
His response to all the breeds that I mentioned was that.
Basicly anything but a kenyi, lab, scofi, something we have around here readily he couldn't get in.
Why tell a customer they can get in anything they want?
My husband and I have decided its going to be ordering from breeders only from now on, unless its like today stepping into petsmart and finding the greyshaki females we needed for the "trio"...
Its hard to belive that in our area to get african cichlids you have to order them if you want anything special.

It the same here. All common cichlids are in the lfs. I have been looking for deep water haps. I had them before and had to sell them. Even online I can't find them. To actually buy 6-8 of them plus shipping. We had a msobo male same thing or you can only get juvis. We want more harder to find (duh) species to breed. But we of course can't find anything we want. At least we found red X blue zebras, a lady who got some of our acei has some who bred. 3/$10. We are in the same boat you are.

This fish place that I always go to, has cichlids out the yingyang he has so many that he stopped ordering normal tropical fish just to make room.

Yeah our stores have lots of kinds we don't want. Lake Malawi has over 2000 species and they are still finding some more. Too many to choose from. The ones we want we have to order from other provinces or countries.

Exactly, that store said they were getting some new hap, but it was one that he couldn't even named (he described a Red Empress actually).

Lucky you Can't believe you just chanced on the females. Makes me want to run check! Maybe our store will have them - probably not But it never hurts to check.

Is it rude to ask going price for females? And what size?

The females were only 5.49 a peice and they were about 2 inches which they are actually about the same size as the male, I bought him at a smaller size so they will be growing together. He is already doing his little "flirting" dance around them.
