Moderator Request

Lately there has been a rash of posts that are being entered twice or even three times in a row by more than one member. This does not get your posts more attention or a quicker reply. I do not know if you are aware but there are not a great many moderators on this forum and we now have over 7300 members. Everyone has posts that they would like to have seen and attention noted to. Most of the moderators also have full time or more jobs besides being volunteers here. This limits the amount of time they have to spend here and the amount of time it takes to deal with the requests here is not small. We have a lot of very talented members who handle a lot of the load and we do not want to diminish their accomplishment but to act in a rude or impatient way to attempt to get the attention of someone to answer quicker is not good forum etiquette.

It is also not a good idea to post and double post nonsense type threads to boost the thread count. This makes you very unpopular with everyone and will generally result in most of your posts being ignored. We do not have time to deal with those who are not serious or trying to seriously contribute to what is being said. Not that fun cannot be had but a continual pattern of nothing but nonsense in your posts can get you in trouble with everyone.

So please learn to be patient and if the problem is vital and life threatening you can let us know, but if it is just a desire to have attention to a matter that could wait please know that your question will be dealt with and as soon as we can but we are only human and there are only 24 hours in our days too and every time we have to go in and correct the problems caused by the double and triple posting it takes away time that could be spent answering questions and helping those who need it.

Hear Hear!

I do agree that double or even triple posts are annoying, but sometimes a laggy connection or a bad mouse causes a double tap, so I think that every once in a while is acceptable, but when it's happening all the time, I don't think that's right. Also the posting in more than one forum is a no-no too.

Thanks Rose, nothing worse than people try to boost their post level by posting on everything. Bringing up old posts which have been answered. The place is for people who want to learn more about the hobby and their fish.
Not for the odd people who have nothing better to do than make mean comments to people who probably have been into fish keeping long than the nit picker.

Why don't we sticky this? So it doesn't get lost in the archive forever?

Good job Rose, I agree, there are lots of talented members on here and patience is always the key to a forum. You will get a reply over a period of time, just depends if the expert on that topic is busy or how long they spend on here at a time.

I know I used to do that and still do sometimes. Good luck and if you tell more people they will stop. But not all of them. You can get banned too and the moderaters arent usually online. Dont deserve or I am not worthy of being a moderator and I have school.

Question How are mod's appointed? I hope it is not from the number of post made, if so..anyone could post self-serving post to become a mod. when if fact they no nothing of the fish hobby or have not been in it long enough for the status of mod. A teenager is NOT able to give advice to long time keepers in this field because they could post 1000's of times..that is not fair to the people that really care and take pride in their aquariums and fish care.

Every mod I've ever had the pleasure of talking to has been very knowledgable and nothing but informative..They do not go off of number of post. I see nothing wrong with a teenager being a mod..Lots of teenagers know MUCH more then me about fish keeping. Age has nothing to do with knowledge IMO.

I think age doesn't matter, but maturity level does. It just so happens that high maturity levels are found more often in older age groups *I can say that cause I AM a teenager *

Nope. Mods are not appointed by age or by post count. In fact, Fishlore members (not just the mods, but the members in general) tend to discourage pointless posts, so even if a member did just try to rack up a huge post count to gain "credit," (and it's happened) all they are doing is ticking other members off.

Mods are given moderator status by Mike, the forum operator. The primary reason he gave most of us mod status is not due to our ability to dispense help, however. Any member can do that, with or without mod privileges. We were given mod status due to a helpful demeanor, ability to be diplomatic in difficult situations, and similar traits. (At least, I gather that is what is going through his mind when he appoints a new mod. )

Thank you, I am so glad to hear that Mod status is appointed, I have read some multi post by some that made me feel..well... uneasy and I was hoping they were not self-serving to raise theri status to a Mod. I do agree that some teenagers can and do have the knowledge above some adults and I have been very impressed with some of the teens and theirs answers as well as the devotion to this hobby, if more of our teens had the attitude that some show on this site with this hobby I feel this world would be a better place. Great job guys.......and I have really enjoyed this site too, and even as long as I have been in this hobby I have learned something new on each visit from some. Keep-up the great work and thanks again

I AM A Teenager (If you can count 12 and a half as teenage), and I think you will find (although I do prefer to be modest) that I do have a large knowledge of fish often matched by those of experienced adult fishkeepers, and I do take great pride in my beautiful fish and planted aquariums!
