New tanks!
Picked up two 55 gallon tanks today. Came with 3 common plecos and three unidentified African Cichlids. Plecos are going out tomorrow. Probably keeping the cichlids and getting more. The second 55 will be a fry tank for guppies and plecos.
Giant fry tank=Fast growing fish haha
Will post pictures later.
Total was $300
Came with fish, substrate, decor, DW, plants, 6 filters, 2 heaters, filter pads, nets, algae scraper, lights, extra bulb, fish, water conditioner, siphon, stands, food, veggie clips, and other assorted things.
He helped us move it to our house and get it inside. We set up first one and setting up second as we speak.

I have one 55 and the rents say that is to much, how did you get enough room for 3 55s and 2 30s and 2 10s? dont your family go crazy!!
At the local thrift shop there is a 30 gal tank with everything needed for it for 8.50 but mommy says no.

Haha. Thanks I know it was a steal!
I am hoping that my mom is going to continue to keep the cichlids and add more because it is "her tank". She likes most african cichlids but she says she doesn't like the "rocky" look of cichlid tanks.
Angelfish220,
I have one 55, two 30s, and two 10s in my bedroom.
There is one 55 to the left of the TV in the living room.
There is one 55 In front of the dining room table.
I just finished putting the fry into the 55 and they seem overwhelmed with the space. Still huddling in the corner haha. They started to venture out as i turned the lights off though. Hopefully by tomorrow they will be acclimated to their new home.
Pics are in next post

First is cichlid in need of ID
Second is one of the three common plecos.
Third is full tank shot of mom's tank.......that I set up.....
Fourth is the fry tank....sitting in the middle of our kitchen before it was set up. Didn't have time to take pic of it setup and thought this was fairly funny that we had a 55 in the middle of the kitchen.....

I am wanting to say your cichlid is a red top zebra, or in the Metriaclima family, not really sure. If not cyinatilapia family...
Allie would prob give a def id on this one.

Alright. Thanks steveangela!
That looks very similar to them. Now that they have colored up.
I think we may have 2 males and 1 female. All red top sebras. I will take a better pic of the second cichlid tomorrow.

Getting Situated-"CoryD's" tanks
The plecos are all gone. Even though we only had them a day, I sorta miss the big common guys. The cichlids - woe is me - all seem to be males. One appears to be mimicking female colors - he is smaller and definately the subordinate one in this group. Tried reworking the tank set up to make everyone happy, but the he/she is still being bullied.
Need to make the jump and commit to getting / finding some females or sell. Still will have to sell one of the males as I want other fish in the tank - plecos for sure.
Not sure i want to go cichlid - I really want to hit the lottery and get some zebra plecos. (yeh, wouldn't everyone) I like swordtails too - so not sure which way I'll go.
Cory and I got the other 55 set up and the fry are doing well. They have all found their niches.
And yes, lots of tanks - but its all good.

Cory ... wow, that is indeed a GREAT deal! And your tanks look really beautiful! But ... where did you get these 2 tanks from? And how did you manage to set them up (and even plant them) so quickly in one day? I also see fish in your tanks already (which are really beautiful fish ), so that tells me you already got the tanks cycled (ex. got mature filters and gravel perhaps?). If not, then ... what about the fishies during the cycle?
