My Traumatic Morning

There's a big ole tom that hangs around, he's sweet with people, but attacks other cats. He's even snuck into my house when someone opened the door and attacked my cat, who we adopted around Easter. She was skitzy when we first got her, now whenever that tom is outside, she hisses and spits and attacks anything that comes near her, even us.

Well, I get woken up around 4:30am by a cat fight right outside my window.
I get up to chase them away, don't see them out front, but now I can here them out back.
Luckily, I had put shorts on, cause I look out back and this tom has a white cat ( my cat? can't be, she just woke me an hour ago by walking on my back, so I know she's in the house) cornered on my pool deck.

I go out and OH NO! It is my cat! She jumps off the deck and squeezes under the lattice to get under the deck and he is in fast pursuit and he's got her down.
I grabbed the closest thing to me, my trellis, and I'm poking it under the deck trying to get him away from her, all the while, he's growling and she's hissing and spitting. Claws and fur are flying.

She takes off and runs around the house and under a bush, and he's got her again. This time I ran in the house and got a broom and was able to chase him away.

My poor Elly is cowered under the bush hissing and spitting and growling, all wet from the dew.

It took me 20 minutes and a peice of string to get her to creep out. Now, I know this cat well enough, not to try and touch her or I'd get my face torn off.

I have the front door open telling her in my most soothing voice that it's ok, just go in the house. Instead she's hissing growling and lashing out and starts creeping down the driveway.

I finally go get a heavy blanket and throw it on top of her so I could pick her up without ending up in the emergency room shredded to pieces.

Whew, she's in the house, I don't see blood, mine or hers, but quite a bit more skitzy than ever, still growling and hissing.

I'm huffing and puffing and by this time, limping to the coffee pot. I'm too old for this. lol

An hour after it started, I'm finally getting my first cup of coffee.

Then, I think, how did she get out?? I check all the screens down stairs, they're in tact. I go upstairs, and Oh my goodness!!!! One of the screens on the second floor is bent out, the clip is broken and there is white cat hair on it.

Oh my poor girl must have fallen out the window then gotten attacked by the tom....Thank goodness she's fixed, not hurt but the poor thing, I think she'll be in a permanant state of skitzoid.

Thanks for reading, I need something stronger than coffee, it's 5:00 somewhere.

What an ordeal! I have a mean old Tom that comes in my yard too...He used to beat my old gal Pebbles so bad she had to go to the emergency clinic....I keep her in now but the Tom stills walks the fence prowling for her..

I'm glad you and your kitty are OK....

Poor girl! shes lucky she don't have post traumatic stress now! lol...
I hate aggressive cats!
I have a huge scared up arm from a tom cat from when I was 8 and snuck outside to check on a cat I thought was hurt because I heard cats fighting and his ear was torn off.... he attacked me... I know all to well don't touch a tom cat thats been fighting... the one that got me tore the meat out of my arm literally... your lucky you didn't get attacked! and your kittys okay!

Nothing is worse than an agressive tom. All of our toms are neutered for that reason.

Ohhh your poor kitty. I can totally relate to what your going through. I used to have a stray tom that used to come around the house and attack my male cat. My male was fixed but it didnt matter to this tom cat. he was there to claim the territory as his own. This Tom would chase my poor guy up the deck stairs.. chasing him and attacking my guy. I felt so bad for Buster, he was and still is a timid cat. There was nothing I could do. Now that I have moved from that place.. my boy is much happier.
I hope your poor lil one recovers.. and doesnt stay traumatized by what happened to her.

All the cats in our neighborhood seem to have formed an alliance and when a new cat comes in they kinda gang up on him. Its weird. I always get nervous when I see my cats walking up to another cat from the neighborhood but they just sit together. Very strange. Occasioanlly we hear growls, hisses, and the cliche high pitched meowing of a cat fight. But thats only every once and a while

Lucy, that is an upsetting, yet funny tale! I have 4 cats, so I know all too well the trouble they get into.

Keep the Baileys next to your coffee pot, just in case there is another encounter!!

I hope kitty is over her trauma! ( And you too).

LOL ... I love the way you told the story ... haha both funny and scary (especially from the point of view of Elly!) ... . I'm glad nothing serious happened to her! And that Tom cat ... is he some stray or some household cat being let outside?

I'd love to see a picture of your Elly

Here she is. She resembles my little guy in my my avitar (I miss him)

Elly's still pretty freaked out, she swats and growls at my poor old blind, deaf dog when he walks into her.
(Actually it's my mom's dog, I took him after she passed away 5 years ago)
I wanted to get a baby kitten soon, because I've always taken in older kittens, but now I'm not too sure I'll be able to.

I think the tom must belong to someone, he's a pretty good size and looks well fed. My daughter calls him Hefty.

I haven't seen him since the fight, I guess my girl held her own. lol

Awww ... I love her . Thanks so much for the pictures! She has such beautiful green eyes!

Sorry about whatever happened to the kitty in your avatar , and also very sorry about your mom passing away. I think I'd have to say about that something similar I said to voiceless Kat in this thread: http://www.fishlore.com/fishforum/ge...lainin-do.html

Elly is a beautiful, regal girl. I am crazy for cats as I am for fish also, seems there are many of us with that addiction as well!. I think she has to just " GRRRRRRR Talk" for a while to let everyone know she is not to be messed with!! Give her a tummy fluff for me!!!

That stray cat is lucky it isn't here, if it was and it started on my sisters cat, I'd just send Zeus up the garden to chase it lol, and if it attacked Zeus then, I wouldn't be far behind with a nice size 9 boot aiming for it's arse.

WOW what an experience. I was so fearlful, as I read, that something bad was the result...my heart was jumping....but whew!!! a good ending
Your kitty is beautiful and I hope she did learn a lesson. Good thing she's got a good human to look after her.

oh man. I thought for sure you were going to tell us that your poor cat died. I'm so relieved!!

now..... I don't know much about cats. When you guys keep saying a tom.. is that an actual kind of cat or just the term for the cat outside that bugs you? hahaha
