To make a long story short he came from Petsmart and was a very unhappy little Betta boy....I was shopping at petsmart yesterday with my birthday money gathering supplies for my next fish project when I met eyes with this young man...He was bumping around in his cup so hard he has bruises on him...I named him "Y" because he has a Y on his side....I kept him in a breeder net in Wills tank last night while I prepared his new home...I filled it with water from Wills tank and put some rocks ect. from Wills home in hopes it will be cycled....I figured me taking him home was better than leaving him in a cup to die...I bought a little 5 gallon tank for him.He will eventually go into my 20 gallon divided tank when it is complete....So $100.00 later......

He is darling! I love his pouty puppy dog face! No wonder he won you over with those irresistable eyes. He is very lucky to have found such a good mommy who will spoil him. What size home did you get for him? By the way, Happy Birthday!!!!!

I bought this 5 gallon tank..It's just temporary.....It has a filter Etc.

That should be great for him. My bettas all have 5 gallons and they love the space. Much better than the little torture cups!

He is NOT shy at all......He is already interacting with me.....He comes right up to the glass when I turn the light on and he sees my camera....It's really cute!

awww he loves his new mommy already! That's how my betta buddy was when I got him (hence his name). He was my little buddy right away! Congrats on your new little boy!

The first thing I noticed was the curl in his fin! My first betta had that! (hence the name Curly)

This has probably been asked and answered a hundred times.. but im gonna ask it again..

why are bettas kept in the "cups" in pet stores? I know you cant put males together or they fight.. but why cant they take a big tank and divide it up several times and keep them in that?

Probably because the cups are more 'cost efficiant' or 'convientent' and because 'bettas live in mud puddles so they can live in little plastic cups'

Hmmm I didnt know they lived in mud puddles. I have never really read up on the bettas so i really dont know much about them. poor things.. they do look really pitiful in those cups..
