Finally an end to my daily water changes in my mbuna tank!! It was the Eheim!

I had taken it apart 4 times in the past 2 weeks trying to see why it wasn't putting out flow like it should, low and behold even after cleaning the tubing again and again we still got gobs of stuff out of it today. My husband fiddled w/ it today and we found the issue. The instructions says "don't fill the canister w/ water to top" I took it as not to completly prime it to the top, thinking it would tear the motor up. Well my husband filled it up to the motor, started it, and then primed it w/ more water when the level dropped, and magicllly its working again!!!

In just about 20 min my mbuna tank was sparkling again!! I still did a 25% water change after that, and will test the parameters in the morning, but my bets are the ammonia will be back down to -0- in no time!!

I don't know if this is recommended but I am going to do this Sat (since its going to be my only day off of work) I am going to take all the rocks out and fish for a little while and "flip" the substrate and vaccum it deep down, I did that a month ago... I feel like when I vaccum it I am not getting down good enough in the crushed coral and sand, where its so thick.

All it took to get the Eheim fixed was my husband making a remark about the tank looking not so clear like I usually keep it, and when I remarked about the eheim not flowing like it should.. He fixed it so fast!! (he almost killed my bacteria in the filter though! he started to rinse the filter pad and substrate in tap water! I freaked out, and got him a bucket full of tank water and said use this! don't ever ever ever put any of the fishs stuff under tap water again)- I think he was about to throw the eheim at me but I was only protecting my bacteria... lol

I hate it when things not working properly the tank looks horid !!

I have an 85 gallon tank with tanganyica cichlids. Mainly tropheus moorii. I have just finished my clean on my tank I took out all the rocks and I " flipped" all the substrate to vaccum it properly. I do this regurlarly with my tank to no ill effect and the tank looks so fab and the water is sooo cristal clear now.

I am not sure if this is recommedned but it works really really well !!
