QT him again until his tail heals IMHO. It gives him less of an advantage with a damaged tail. Depending on how bad it is it can hinder his movement and possibly, like you said, cause an infection. If you cannot QT him in a fry net or another tank then I would keep a close watch on him for any signs of infection or further aggression from the adults. Whether or not he stays in the main tank I would still watch closely for signs of disease/infection.
The best thing to heal torn, ripped, or otherwise damaged fins is high quality water so extra water changes will do the poor fellow good.
I wish you best of luck with him and keep us updated on the progress. I know it is always fun to have your first baby and watch him grow up. Also at 3/4 of an inch you should be able to tell the sex. If by the rear of the fish there is a black mark visible inside of the guppy then it is a female if there is no black spot then it is a male. Also the males tail will soon begin to resemble that of an adult males extravagant male.
