Reg Frog Tadpole Questions..

I am going to get some for my 6 year old to raise in the house then we will release the frogs back where we got the tadpoles (we live out in the country and have a pond in the cowfeild) I want him to see the tadpoles grow, I am going to even get pond water for this, what size tank? should i get a little 5g tank? what do you all think? We have the african dwarf frogs but they keep eating their eggs before I can get them to raise, they actually breed and lay eggs often

Most local frogs can be raised on flake food and algae wafers.
I would go with a 10 instead of a 5, if possible.

Thanks.. they have el cheapo 10g tanks at walmart for like 10 bucks... that'll work... do I need to use filter, or air pump? anything like that?? I have never done this and I don't want to kill these little guys..

I had some in a glass casserole dish when I was younger. Used creek water. Sand from the creek and thats it. A few became frogs but the tadpoles ate them? Weird. So we stopped trying to raise them. If you had like 10 or so in a 10G I would see no problem. Filtration would definitely help but I know the water that mine came from was nowhere near the cleanliness of any of my tanks with filtration. I would still do water changes of course though. Also there was no heat so thats not a problem.

I may not be telling the truth but that is just from experience.

I could see not using a heater since outside right now the pond is cold... and I could do water changes even using the pond water they are used to... even better for them..
thanks!
