Question about tank...

I was just wondering if its okay to keep sticking your hand/fingers inside the fish tank? I read and heard from somewhere that we shouldn't be doing that because of the chemicals and what not..

What do you think?

I don't see the problem in putting your hands in the tank, in fact I would encourage it. For the fact when you go to clean or move stuff around in the tank your fish would be less stressed when your hands are in there where they are used to having your hands in there... Just like my cichlids are eating out of my hands and enjoy my hands in the tank during water changing/vaccum time.

I put my hands in all the time also..just have to make sure there are no residue's of hand soap or anything else the human hand touches

It's not a bad idea to run your hands under some hot water first, then dry them.. but unless you have had lotion or something on your hands, it's probably ok.

I put my hands in my tank all the time. I just make sure they're nice and clean.

The only thing is one of my clown fish has taken to nipping at me when I put my hand in when I'm not cleaning the tank. Like if I'm trying to move a live rock or something, out she comes. I tell her that I don't have food for her but she doesn't believe me!! Not the first woman to not believe me either!! First time she did it, I was like 'what the'??!!! Didn't hurt but it was irritating!!

Yea I do have to ad that when I do put my hands in the tank/ or even feed them I make sure my hands are clean, and I don't have soap or lotion on them.... I am more paticular w/ the cichlid fry tank than the others.. I guess from where I kept the guppy fry and I wouldn't touch the inside of the tank for weeks except for water changes and feeding... I vaccumed the tank the other day and I swear those tiny guys were in the corner curled up shaking like little kids scared of a monster...

it kinda grosses me out to be always reaching my hands in there.... i try to make my husband do it, but he doesn't always arrange things exactly how i want, so i get frustrated and have to do it myself anyway... and then go take a shower immediately to get rid of the icky fishy-arm feeling (it lingers, even if i scrub my whole arm under the faucet... need a scalding shower, etc... it's almost like a mild OCD thing).

oh, and picking out bad snails is the worst!
