A BIG surprise

Hello guys/gals,

I woke up this morning and logh and behold that there is a LIVE snail in my tank! I have never seen him before, but i recently got new plants from my lfs. Can someone tell what type it is and should i kill it?? This was quite a surprise, its small and proably the size of the tip of the led from a pencil, or about 1-2 cm and brownish. Thanks

Well, where there is one...............Depends on your tank plans and, well, how you feel about it.....

It might be a pond snail, in which case you may have many eggs, and could have an explosion of snails soon...If you don't want this to happen, squish them as they appear...If you do this for several weeks, it should be the end of it.

IF you want to get a loach to eat them, I hear this works also..

Like Susitna said, it's probably a pond snail. They can come with plants sometimes. Many people find them to be a nuisance, and if you don't do anything about them in the beginning, you could have zillions of them in your tank (maybe I'm exaggerating just a little). It depends if you want them or not, but personally, I dislike them.

They're definitely capable of getting out of hand quickly, destroying plants and even harming and sometimes killing fish.
