Which do you like better: Black or Balloon Molly?

Yello

We have some trouble choosing which molly to get. We're planning to get 3. But which do you like better: Black Molly or Balloon Molly? We think black mollies are a bit scary but cheap fish, and we think balloon mollies are pretty nice but having trouble with sexing, a little bit expensive and can be found in a far pet shop. Which is which? Your opinion would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance!

Good morning Lyndatu
I guess it comes down to preference over balloon or black Mollies. Personally, I love the black mollies. I think they look very striking in a community tank. I would love to have them myself, but the PH is too low for them here. I am always drawn to that tank at the LFS.

Some folks like the balloon shape in tropical fish, I personally do not so would never go with Balloon mollies for that reason. Besides... are the balloon mollies genetically altered to look that way?

gooooooooooooo with Black Mollies..... ( subliminal message lol...)

I agree, baloon mollies are not natural and from what I have read have problems swimming correctly. I would go with the black. Just pay close attention to water quality. If anything goes wrong they will be the first to show the symptoms.

Thanks for the opinions.

Yes, black mollies look great, too. Wanna have something different in my tank. Didn't know balloon-shaped mollies aren't natural, though. Thanks for the info.

I now got 2 black mollies; a male and a female. The female looks pregnant now. The male looks like it has fin rot. Better go help him!

Maybe a little late... but if you decide to get another female... I really like the dalmation mollies. My male is almost all black with a little bit of white, and some BLUE on his tail... very pretty! My female is mostly white with black spots. They add a little more "color" to your tank than the plain black ones.

Both are cute fish, but I think the black mollies have a longer life expectancy and can be healthier overall.
