Something I heard

I visited my cusin who I had not seen for sometime during the period that I had not seen him he got him self a Silver Arowana and ummm I already knew he had it but at never seen it or seen its tank so i go there and ummm there is a 55 gallon sized tank with the Silver Arowana in it it look in good health he feed him feeder ship once a day and pellets and anyway I remembered reading about Arowana and i think they said to keep them in tanks 150 gallon up because they reach like 60 or something cms anway i go to him ahh "isnt it going to get to big for its tank" and he said "ah no cause he stopped growing because his tank was to small" i didnt know that was possible for a fish to stop growing because it had no room so can someone like explain this too me plz and if it stops growing wouldn't it be like unhealth because its kinda like a problem? to stop growing....

What is the current size of the arowana? they r huge fish, can grow up to 4' or more, if kept in captivity they should reach at least 2' in size or else it would be harmful for them; Even though the fish may be stunted and stop growing, the internal organs will not stop growing. In the end, there will be hardly any room inside the fish's body for its internal organs. So you can imagine that this will have a detrimental effect on the fishes health. they should be kept at least i a 100g tank..............

Neville is right...

I would say 150 is the minimal tank size though, but really they should have more than that.. 200+ would be good for one.

But Neville is right about the internal organs and tissues continue to grow even if the outside does not, which means organ failure if it is stunted by much.
