Re: tankdesigns....
I prefer a more natural look. Real plants, attractive pieces of driftwood, and some curious looking rocks. As close to the botttom of a pond as possible.

Re: tankdesigns....
If I had a larger aquarium, I would have made a "waterfall" scene with slates and a hang on filter with driftwood, plants, etc. I like natural-looking tanks better.

Re: tankdesigns....
I'm planning on getting a 95ga tank. I want to put in rocks that rise on the back wall, giving veiwing space in the front and hidouts in the back. I want to make it like an ocean dropoff, with an overhang at the top and TONS of coral on top and some on the sides and front of the tank. The front vewing space, were theres nothing but sand and fish, should look like a the baren bottom of the dropoff
All in all, I'm making an ocean dropoff reef look.

i subscribe to the random school of modern tank design.. hey it works for art! our tank design revolves around nothing to tear or snag betta fins along with faster cleaning time.

our design theme is like modern art - random. and we pick substrata and decor/plants based on what is betta-friendly.

We're planning on a sunken village scene in the 8', with a sign saying something like "Stop the Dam"
Already got the street lights and the roads, now looking for houses, silk bonzai's, artificial grass, a church, some caves and a couple of tunnel ends. I'm gonna have a go at making some rockfaces to hide the heaters and so forth, and hopefully make them into the tunnels too. (Must look out for some styrofoam)
Should be ok when it's all done, and very different!

I like Takashi Amano's Style of tanks. Making them look like a meadow or mountains so it looks like the fish fly rather than swim. I've yet to manage a tank that looks like that, though.

Re: tankdesigns....
Hi,
I also have a shripwreck in my 30 gallon tank! The fish love it. Even though I have used artificial plantings instead of real, I have chosen interesting shapes, and created many quirky hiding places, and dens for the fish. A favourite of theirs, is a cave I made from Rose Quartz. The aquarium light makes the rose quartz practically glow, and it is stunning.

Me too, on both :-)
I am trying for planted tanks that look like the clearing on the edge of a forest. I want a very asian look, and am using pagodas and bridges in the open spaces, but the main focus is on the (just starting to fill out) plants. As the plants grow the fake plants and caves and things are being taken out. :-)

I like this theme. A sign like welcome to Toccoa Falls would be good. Any town that really had it happen.
I know about making your tank fish friendly, I didn't think mine was dangerous, but after tank cleaning sometimes I notice injuries. Happened again day before yesterday. The fish get frantic, and rush by rocks etc and scrape themselves........ So my next tank will be more fish friendly.
I am collecting things for it now. The 125 I've been planning for while now, will have a "river running through, coming out of white/green slate chunks stacked up at the back of the tank. Red "caves" on each side, and a white gravel river bed with light blue/clear flat marbles over the gravel. On either side will be planted areas with drift wood, eco-complete with black gravel over, and a clear pvc pipe down front 1/2 buried in the white gravel against the glass for Mr. Squiggles, the Black Ghost Knife fish. All hiding places should be where the fish feel secure, but people can still see them. Right now I have several fish I never see. I know they are still in the tank but.........a raphael cat that is 5" and never comes out of this one shell he loves. I have a royal pleco that is just beautiful, but the tank is so dark I hardly ever see him. The best part of setting up new tanks is to enjoy seeing your old friends in bigger better homes!
