Re: Weird-looking fish sought: how to fill our 10G

I'll find out if he really likes them when he gets home tonight, and do some research if he's interested. To be honest, I think his heart is set on a dwarf puffer. What a brainwave that was, Dave (your idea, wasn't it?). I cannot wait to have the little bugger home. I literally cannot wait. To think that soon, we'll have a betta too! OK, better stop, getting over excited and won't sleep again (kidding! my MTS is not that bad yet)

i don't really have brainwaves.. just brain farts when i eat beans and ketchup. your mts will be that bad - you will start dreaming about your fish before long.

Hello? Catch-up time, Dave. My fish are the last think I think about at night, and the first thing I think about in the morning. If I have a stressful day at work ahead, I'll just day dream about them and I'll fall asleep like a log!

Re: Weird-looking fish sought: how to fill our 10G

Oh honestly, it's terrible. I told the customer I'd meet her in the office at 7am to prepare for a meeting. Of course, I didn't want my heroism to go unnoticed, so I cc'd him on the e-mail. He really ripped into me for being such a show off, and then he said: 'as if you were dedicated. first sign of a sneeze from your fish and you take the week off!' Made me laugh, becuase it's kind of been true!

i think it depends on the fish.. like i would hear brackish water for dwarf puffers and they do just as well in freshwater. it's best to research each fish and find out just how important brackish water is for it.. and how brackish.

Re: Weird-looking fish sought: how to fill our 10G

Well that's it. It's a species by species thing how tolerant they can be to other-than-nature-intended salt conditions, but I'd like to avoid stretching them in a planned way. I mean, am sure it can happen that by a series of circumstances, I end up having to house fish from slightly different ranges together, but I'd like to be able to avoid it up front.

also, years and years of breeding in captivity can maybe slowly make some brackish fish more tolerant of freshwater and less in need of brackish.

ah - i see what you mean.

just a note - dwarf puffers are purely freshwater, not brackish

Yeah, that's why we're interested in them. I don't think my boyfriend could hack brackish. Actually, what makes water brackish? Because if it starts at 1 tblspoon per gallon as I use in my molly tank, then I guess one of ours is brackish.

i hope he doesn't hack up brackish.. that would be painful! ! i'd have to look it up, but you're right on - a certain salinity between freshwater and saltwater is considered brackish.
