garden worms

here we go, today i washed and cut up a garden worm then dropped in tank and expected the fish to go wild, but to be honest only the tiger barbs were interested. i read somewhere that fish like worms ' i now think it was in some kind of joke book :' any way i was wondering has anyone else experimented with these and had any luck?

Re: garden worms

Be careful with live foods from some outdoors location.. diseases and all are a possibility. But brianna and griffin are right - your fish just need smaller worms.

Re: garden worms

My cichlids (an Oscar, a Green Terror, and a Red Jewel) go absolutely NUTS for earthworms. Far and away their favorite meal. I put an earthworm in the tank and he is history within a nanosecond... no joke. Just make sure you get the worms from an area in your backyard that is not fertilized with chemicals or anything... I just use dirty tankwater to fertilize my garden, so I assume that is okay. I feed my cichlids earthworms about once a week at the most.

I've tried feeding my discus fish small earthworms, but they don't seem to enamored with them. They kind of peck away at it till it's finally gone, but they don't seem to enjoy them too much at all... takes about 10 or 15 minutes for 10 Discus to eat one small earthworm. I just feed worms to my other cichids now.

Re: garden worms

cool, sometimes it takes a while for them to figure out that it's food.

i think worms are good to feed, but be sure that you don't only feed them worms. also, be careful not to overfeed.
