Fish Combination

Hi,

just in planning stage and want advice to make sure this is all ok in a 16gal (roughly) tank?

2 x neon tetra's
2 x male blue guppy
1 x red wag platy
1 x tuxedo platy
1 x swordtail

Would them fish be ok with each other?

Thanks

Re: Fish Combination

They will be fine but you will need to get 4 more neon's as they are schooling fish and need a group. Make sure the guppies, platies, and swordtails are all males or have a 2 female to 1 male ratio with them otherwise the males with harrass the females and stress them out.

Re: Fish Combination

6 neon tetras would equal about 9" of fish.
the platys would equal about 4" of fish.
the blue guppys would equal about 4" or 6" (if they're the neon blues) of fish.
a swordtail can be 3 to 5" depending on the type.

Those fish would be ok together, but you might want to choose 2 kinds so that you can have schools of each in your tank - like neon tetras and guppies or schools of both platy types.. all of those fish are happiest (and will show schooling behavior) with 3 or more, with the neons liking 6 or more. If you don't want fry, i'd recommend all males. it's really a matter of personal preference which ones you wanted OR if you wanted to go with the types and quantities that you listed.. just stick to 1" (adult size) per gallon - these fish are real poopers.

Re: Fish Combination

So to keep the fish happy maybe the followig is better:?

3 x male blue guppies (6")
2 x tuxedo platies (4")
1 x red wag platy (2")
1 x swordtail (4")

Approx: 16" of fish

I think that arrangement would work, they won't show schooling behavior but they should be happy with each other.
