I have a 40 gal tank with African Cichlids in it 4 of them. I am having a green slime problem. it is hanging from my filter and also on my tank lamp. What could be causing it, and what can I do to fix it?
Also, one of them had a baby, it is hiding under the rock, is it ok in the tank or should I get it out and put it in another tank? Is it normal for them to have just one baby?
The green slime sounds like algae. How much light does your tank get? How many live plants are in it? Less light and more plants can help with it. Also fish like otos like to snack on the algae. You can also clean it off by hand using paper towels, algae scrappers, etc.. however it works for you.
It's possible only 1 egg hatched.. maybe the others got snacked on when the mother was distracted or maybe more than 1 hatched but the others got eaten.. not sure, but i'd do a thorough search of the tank and maybe put any babies you find into a tank of their own until they get bigger.
