Is my tank crowded?

I have a tank about 49 US gallons (dimensions being 55cm x 104cm x 33cm) and I currently have :

4 x guppies
4 x catfish
1 x sucker
2 x gourami
2 x clown loaches
2 x swordtails

Is it overcrowded or can I add some more fish say 5 more? what can I add? I would like some peaceful school fish but I was told that neon tetras are commonly eaten by gouramies. what can I put?

Here are some pics of my tank. what do you think?

Re: Is my tank crowded?

Going by the rule of 1 gallon per 1 inch of adult-sized fish and the lenghts of adult-sized fish based on info from this site, this is how you stand:

4 Guppies x 2 inches = 8 inches
4 Catfish x 2.5 inches = 10 inches (I'm assuming you mean cory cats)
1 Sucker x 18 inches = 18 inches (I'm assuming you mean a common pleco)
2 Gouramis x 3 inches = 6 inches (no idea what gouramis you have, so that's an estimate)
2 Clown Loaches x 12 inches = 24 inches
2 Swordtails x 5 inches = 10 inches

Total: 76

Clown loaches should also be kept in a minimum of 55 gallons.

Could you give more details, like what kind of catfish, sucker, and gouramis you have? Then we can calculate things more accurately. Also, how big are some of the fish that can get fairly good-sized right now, like the clown loaches and sucker (assuming that's a common pleco)? For example, I have a common pleco in a 29 gallon tank, which people would automatically say is bad, but he is only a few inches long right now, and I'm sure I can find him another home if he gets too big.

Re: Is my tank crowded?

hmm let me give some further details :

4 x normal cory catfish (2inches)
4 x guppies (1.5inch)
1 x common pleco sucker (3.5 inches)
2 x gourami (dwarf gourami - male about 3inches female about 1.2inches)
2 x clown loaches (3 inches)
2 x swordtails (2.5inches)

they are all young since I've began my tank advanture only about a month ago! What do you think about the tank and the decorations? And can you please answer another topic "NEED URGENT HELP PLEASE" which is also mine and on which I urgently need help? thanks

Re: Is my tank crowded?

I agree with Bonochick because those estimates are based on how big the fish will get. And fish can grow fast. I would not add any more fish. Your clown loaches are going to get way too big for that tank as well as the "Sucker" Pleco fish. I would consider taking them back and getting other smaller fish. Ottos are a very small sucker fish that will keep your tank sparkling.

Re: Is my tank crowded?

With the sizes they are at right now, I don't think you are in that rough of shape. However, if those fish all end up living long, happy lives, they will become too big for that tank.

If you didn't have the clown loaches, I don't think it would be that bad. Do you think you'd be able to get a 55 gallon tank for them once they start getting bigger? Or do you have a friend or lfs who could take them? Whatever you do though, I would not add anymore fish. Genie had a good suggestion with the ottos instead of the pleco. I probably should have gone that route, but I love common plecos so much! I figure I will enjoy him for as long as I can, and if he gets too big, I have a nice lfs that would surely take him...as much as it will pain me to part with him, if we reach that point.
