I have two problems in my 40 gallon tank:

(1) My male gourami has been attacking the female and she has a white mark on her front like a white scratch, I saw him chasing her. What should I do?? I don't have a hospital tank, can I put her in the breeding cage or breeder?

(2) My other big problem reagards my male swordtail, he has been in my tank for about 10days now and 2 nighs ago my father accidentally turned off my heater and filter , the morning after I found that the temperature had went down from 27C to 21C, and I also found my male sword tail lying on the gravel, but not dead. While the female is ok, he is now acting weardly. He went up to the top of the tank and is now constantly swimming against the filter's water stream without changing location, just moving his head and tail. When I feed them he just eats some few flakes and goes up again swimming against the water stream. occasionally he swims to the bottom or circles the aquarium, but still returns swimming at the top. Can anyone tell me what is happenning and what can I do please thanks verymuch

Well, I suggest that you consider getting a hospital tank, but here are some suggestions for now.
1. I think the breeder would be too small for any length of time.
2. Try taking the male back to the store, since he is the agressive one, he may attack other fish as well.
3. Dont use Melafix or Pimafix because gourami have a labrynth organ and those meds will kill them.
As for your swordtail, I don't know for sure, I have never kept swordtails, but I would watch him for a day and see if he adjusts any better, it could just be shock from the temp change.

I hope another member will be able to help you more, but seriously do think about the hospital tank. It doesn't have to be elaborate, just a heater and filter (no carbon b/c that will suck out any meds). You don't even need a light or gravel.

Well thanks, but about the swordtail, I just found him lying dead on the gravel. I noticed that one of his eyes was very red like infected here is a pic? Is this an infection which can affect the other fish or is it just a symptom of death because he has normal eyes 2 hrs ago. thanks

weird, I had a cory that got red eyes and died a day later, then all of my cories died, so I would error on the side of caution and treat with Marycin 1 & 2.
I am really sorry that you are having these problems. good luck.
