Number of fish

Hi,

I currently have a 24 US gallon tank (about 90 litres. 30x15x12 inches) with a filter turning over 800 l/hr and a bubbler for extra airation.

The tank currently contains:

5 Guppies (3 female, 2 male)
6 White Cloud Mountain Minnows
6 Leopard Danios
1 Corydoras catfish

So 18 fish in 24 gallons.

I also have a 7 gallon tank and a 3 gallon tank for fry as I know some of the fish I have breed easily.

After doing some research online I found out that the Corydoras would do better in a group, I was therefore considering getting a couple more. But I'm not sure whether I have enough room.....?

Any suggestions/advice is appreciated.

Thanks for the fast reply.

OK, so if I'm currently overstocked then that obviously rules out getting any more, so the next question would be what to do about the current situation. As I say, I have a 7 gallon tank as well, maybe I could move something to there...? Eg. The minnows or a trio of guppies, in order to fix the overstocking problem.

Re: Number of fish

All of your fish get to about 2" (the cory to 2.5") so you have 36.5gallons of fish. 12 of them would exactly fill the 24g. (the minnows & danios would fit that.) If it's possible to get a 10g, the guppies would be a nice fit for it. Then you'd have the cory to find a place for (with a friend or 2). Either he could go to someone with corys or you could put him and a couple buddies in the 7g.

If it's not possible to get a new tank and you want to keep all of your fish, you could simply move the guppies to the 7g and add 1 more cory to the 24g and do partial water changes more often on the tanks, testing the water regularly since you'd be slightly but not heavily overstocked and in a do-able situation.

Re: Number of fish

The only thing I can add is that the Danios and White clouds like lots of swimming room so they would be better left in the bigger tank.
