Disaster Strikes

On Sunday while I was doing my weekly water changes disaster struck. I had taken about 1/3 of the water out of my 55, 20 and 10 as I usually do. As I went to the back room to shut off the water to get ready to start refilling the tanks I find water all over the floor. Water was coming up out of the basement toilet and the well in the basement. My ejection pump failed and all of the water (and fish poo) I siphoned out from my tanks ended up on the basement/bathroom/family room/workout room floor. What a mess!!!!

I took 4 hours to clean up and a pretty penny was paid to the plumber the next day.

Of course the pump had to fail while I was doing water changes.

Re: Disaster Strikes

oh no!! I hope you have dehumidifyers--they will help and decrease the risk of toxic mold from growing from the water damage. Hope all is well now. Lila

Re: Disaster Strikes

I'm sorry to hear this! Yeah it sucks! A while ago, my filter spilled about 10 gallons of water from my tank right onto the floor in my room I know it wasn't as bad as your incident was, but believe me ... I was so furious! It was a LOT of cleaning up. It happened very late in the evening, so I was up half the night cleaning up the mess. The water soaked all the things I had hidden inside my aquarium stand! The filter is a canister filter (Rena Filstar XP3). Apparently, I didn't cover the filter properly (after I cleaned the filter media) and that's why water started pouring from the outflow tube. I guess we all have to deal with disasters of this type every once in a while in the fish-keeping hobby ...

I actually just read your post about your "flood" yesterday. Spilled water sucks but what can you besides just clean it up.
