Drain the water down in the tank so you have just enough to keep the gravel wet. Don't fill the bucket up too high with the fish in it. If you could get your lfs to sell you or give you some fish bags, that would be a much easier way to transport them. You may lose your bacteria in your filter. Keep it wet if you can.

I always used those Ziplock disposable containers. I moved my fish about 4 times back and forth from college in them.

Re: moving my tank/fish- need help ASAP
If you have an undergravel filter, you will have to thoroughly clean your tank before adding the fish back in! All the nasties have been held down there under your gravel, and when you turn the filter off, they will seep back upwards.

even if i do clean that crap out, i'm still using the same water and filter, do i have to recycle? i read somewhere that if you take EVERYTHING out, you have 2 recycle coz it kills all the good bacteria

Re: moving my tank/fish- need help ASAP
#1 rinse your gravel and undergravel filter in some of your saved tank water, (don't use chlorinated tap water), #2 be sure to keep everything you want to save bacteria on wet as you are making all these changes. Then if you use the same filter material, gravel etc., there should be enough bacteria to keep it going if you don't have a heavy fish load.

Re: moving my tank/fish- need help ASAP
Spring is springing all around! You have heard the OLD song that says "When it's spring time in Alaska it's 40 below"? Well night time temps. have still been dipping down below 0 F, but at this moment it is +25 F and SUN 8) This is one of the best times of the year, you can play outside as many Alaskans love to do, skiing, dog sledding, Snow machining, with long daylight hours, (over 12 hours a day already), and the snow conditions are perfect! In another 3 weeks we will be in "breakup", the snow will go fast! By the end of the first week of May the leaves will be out on the trees!
