Moving fish from tank to tank

I had never considered this before, but now I have a question. My son's betta tank (see below) is starting to get quite a bit of algae build-up in it. It gets some natural light, and that's probably why. But anyway, my question is this: is it possible (or O.K. for the fish) to move one or both of the otos that are in my 10 gallon into the betta tank, at least for a day or two to let them eat the algae? I have a mag-float, but it's for glass and the betta's abode is acrylic. Just an idea...what do you all think?

Re: Moving fish from tank to tank

2.5 gallon tank is too small for 2 otos and a betta. it will take some time for the otos to settle in that tank. u can keep the tank away from direct sunlight.

Re: Moving fish from tank to tank

Maybe I should make myself more clear. I know that 2.5 gal. is too small for a betta plus the two otos. What I'm wondering is if I could put them in for a day or two just to clean up the tank, then put them back in the 10 gal. I can't move the tank due to space restrictions, so that's not really an option, I just have to deal with the algae as it grows. I'm just wondering if the otos are a viable cleaning option.

Re: Moving fish from tank to tank

You know, I was just replying to another post...would a snail be a good option for keeping that tank clean. I have one live plant, one betta, and gravel. Any input? I seems that might be better rather than the possibility of stressing my otos. I've never had snails, though, so I don't know the first thing about them.

The oto would be fine for a couple of days if you do a water change the day you put him in with the betta. Bet he loves all that algae.

Re: Moving fish from tank to tank

i'd be very careful if you do that. i had the same idea, but the betta kept on trying to eat the otos. what i do now, is just wipe down the inside of the tank when i do a water change. once in a while, i'll do an extra large one so i can get more glass area or i will change the betta to another tank while i'm doing the cleaning. hope that helps.
