Right now I have four tanks. The smallest is a mini Bows 5 gallon tank with a Betta & my largest is my new 29 gallon tank which I will be using to house two pairs of Convicts & a pet store owner will buy their offspring. I should have just bought two larger tanks because of limited space. I'll consider my 29 gallon to be one of those larger tanks, but I'd like to replace my 20 gallon in my bedroom with a 55 gallon & those would be my two tanks. What are some good suggestions for a 55 gallon. I really like the cichlids. I was thinking about either Jack Dempseys or a couple Oscars. What would anyone care to suggest. I want fish that are interesting, agressive, may eat small fish. I've totally given up my idea of having pirahnas, but was thinking about large cichlids instead. What do you all like & why?....& yeah....I'm wondering about the two mated pairs of convicts in my 29 gallon. I'll have to see how that works out.

If you are set on jack dempseys or oscars, you will only be able to have 1 in a 55 gallon. They get quite large and need that 55 gal. all to themselves. African cichlids are usually quite aggressive, and there are some fish that get larger which might be suitable for your 55. Here's some cookie cutter set up ideas for a 55 gal.:
