UGH... Some people....

So we went out to Superpets today.
I swear I keep saying I'll never go back, but they have a larger decor selection than the other places...
So anywho.. while me and the bf were browsing the different aquarium decor... I overheard the employee in charge of the fish section that day speaking with a guy. I didn't hear much until the customer pretty much laughed out very loud that he had.. get this...

OVER 75 fish in a single tank....

Now I didn't hear him say how large his tank was, but by judging from the response of the employee, it wasn't a large tank at all! To my surprise, the employee actually looked a bit peeved and was trying to tell the guy the whole 1inch per gallon thing.
But all this idiot did was just laugh right in the employees face and said he didn't care.... while buying more fish btw!

Just.... UGH.......

Wish I had heard how large his tank was.... b/c if he could get a reaction like that from an employee who most probably isn't really all that informed about fish care anyway... it must've been heckava small.

Re: UGH... Some people....

that many fish would need a lake!!!!!!!!! i wonder how pet shops keep their tanks habitable as they seem to cram loads of fish in, and they dont all sell in a day. you'd think they'd be really toxic with ammonia etc. especially as many pet shops know nowt about fish!

it really baffles me how some people can keep so many fish in such poor conditions.....and i bet luck would have it....they survive! my fish are in luxury (well, they have plenty of space and water changes a few times a week!!) and mine got ill! typical eh!

talking of fish and pet shop conditions.....i've only seen betta's in 2 fish stores. in one of the stores they're in shoes box size crate things with no decor and look really fed up (understandably!) then in my favorite fish store (where i'm becoming a regular! - its not a chain store, but just a fish owner that owns and runs it and he hires other people with fish experience...hence a good shop!) guess where they keep the betta......in the huge tank in the middle where the plants for sale live! must have been about 1.5 metres square he or she was in luxury! it was my son who spotted it (its at his eye level). i thought it was just plants in there! good idea though! keeps him on his own, but by no means cramped!! wonder how many customers know he's in there though?! maybe the store want to keep him and not sell him?!

anyway, i'm rambling.....i just got a bit excited when i saw him!

I like to think that they have REALLY good filtering in shops.

Re: UGH... Some people....

Thank goodness not all people treat their fish that way, and not all stores are horror stories.

I am soooooo happy with the LFS in the nearest town (80) miles from home... It is clean, well kept, and always give good advice.* Due to having a really experienced lady in charge, and even though it is a chain store PETZOO, in this small town (Wasilla), they take the time to do things right.* *The best part is the variety always available.* They also give me special service since it is so long a drive home.* 8) This store also has a good dead fish return policy, which is in my opinion a mark of a store that really cares about the customers, and fish.* The personnel take time to educate as well as just sell the fish.
