| | Fish Master | Need help science people asap I have to write a three page pater on the Mitochondrial Eve Hypothesis and the Endosymbiont Hypothesis and was wondering if anybody could tell me what they are or any good sites with info on them. I don't know what they are because our teacher didn't tell us and I'm having hard time finding info on them because the site I'm supposed to use is down :/
Any help is greatly appreciated

| | Fish Master | Re: Need help science people asap Thank you Rose, I'v looked at the widipedia for a brief background but my teachers don't want me taking stuff from it as you can edit it. I made a cell instead so now I only have to do one of those two. Yes interesting but annoying since he also decided to make us to vocab cards and a chapter review too, but o well maybe later tongiht the site will be working I need but I still need three sources so I'll use google and my schools bookmarked sites, I think my teacher will flip if he see's I used wikipedia

| | Fish Master | Re: Need help science people asap Endosymbiont Hypothesis
The endosymbiont hypothesis was originally constructed by Andreas Schimper in 1883. It was later suggested by Konstantin Mereschkowsky in 1905 that plastids were originally endosymbionts. Again in the 1920's Ivan Wallin suggested the same idea for mitochondria. Since these theories did not contain DNA, they were initially dismissed. Hans Ris once again resurrected the idea by proving this idea false in the 1960's. In 1981, Lynn Margulis made the idea popular once again with symbiosis in Cell Evolution. In this work she said argued her point. However other people emerged to also argue against her to prove her wrong.
The endosymbiont hypothesis states that Eukaryotic cells arose from combinations of different prokaryotic cells billions of years ago.
that's what i got so far |

| | Fish Keeper | Re: Need help science people asap Ah... I get it. It's a theory of how eukaryotic (cells with organelles - just about everything but bacteria and viruses) cells were originally formed.
If you don't get it, this is the simplest explanation I've found. http://www.hudson.edu/homes/bethemt/Ch.%205%20&%206%20(Enzymes%20and%20Cellular%20Resp iration)/Endosymbiont%20Hypothesis%20Notes
Otherwise, I suppose you could cite data on how each organelle can be traced or otherwise connected to prokaryotic cells. |

| | Fish Master | Re: Need help science people asap Thank you I shall use it. Basically our teacher just gave us this and didn't even explain it in class so we have to figure out what it is by ourselves and answer a few questions on it. How it was formulated, how does it attempt to answer questions about the origins of cells, and how it was initially received by the scientific community. Write three pages double spaced.
Thanks for the help
