Identifing Hatches

Hello,
I have a twenty gallon tank with swordtails and plecos.
My question is how do you identify hatches. I started my tank this summer and added more fish a month ago. Three weeks ago I noticed some type of hatch as pin points of light in my tank. These pinpoints have grown enough to see they are some type of vertibrae. There are literally thousands of them. Tiny luminesent figures floating vertically in the currents created by my filter.
They are roughly u shaped and seem to be a* series of dots. What are these, very timy shrimp or fry. I dončt think the fish see them yet, they are so tiny that I can only see them by their luminesence. There are thousands of them and where did they came from. Thanks for any help you Ichyoligists.

Re: Identifing Hatches

I can safely tell you, having handled several broods of Swordtail Fry, what you have there are not baby Swordtails.. could you possibly have Pleco Fry?.. I never had my Plecos give birth when I kept them, so maybe another Fishlorean who's had experience with Pleco Fry can confirm if thats what you have in your tank.

Re: Identifing Hatches

Hi.
Thanks for the reply.
My Pleco's are babies yet, only four inches. The hatch is in the thousands, so not likely swordtails. They almost look like shrimp but are tiny, maybe 3 or 4 centimeters. About an eighth of an inch. I see tiny vertical threads of light when the light catches them.

Re: Identifing Hatches

Not pleco fry either. Do you have neons, white coluds or anything else that might glow. Try looking at them with a magnifying glass.
