Re: Sorry bout all the questions

It's OK - you can ask as many questions as you want. This is why this forum exists .

How large is your tank and how long have you had it? How long have you had the pleco and how large is it? If you have a testing kit, what are your ammonia, nitrite, and nitrate readings?

As for the "algae in the filter" ... are you sure they are algae? Perhaps it's slime? Unless you have a lot of light over your filter, I don't think you should have algae in it. Algae need light to grow, just like plants. The slime can be greenish in appearance. So perhaps you have confused it with algae?

Re: Sorry bout all the questions

The only safest way to get rid of the slime from the filter is to rinse / clean your filter (the inside of it) in your tank water. The filter media should also be cleaned in your tank water. Just set aside (in a bucket or some other convenient container) enough tank water, and clean everything there. If you rinse/clean everything under chlorinated tap water, the chlorine will kill the beneficial bacteria in your filter that are supposed to keep your tank cycled.

What do you have in your tank, you shouldn't be getting that much slime build up that soon unless you have to much in your tank most likely.
