Re: ButterFly

Yes they are really cool little fish. They are so funny, sometimes they play "king of the mountain". They put their noses together then try to push the other off a rock. they don't have anything to hurt anybody with so when they get frustrated they flutter their fins and dart at each other. They virtually ignore the other tank occupants.
Here is a site with loads of information on Hillstreams.

Re: ButterFly

The white ones came in a bunch I "rescued' from a lfs that was keeping them in awful conditions. They were all the same price. Hillstreams are in general not easy to find but will occasionally show under incorrect names such as Hong Kong pleco, Butterfly pleco, Sting Ray pleco and various other names. They are not a pleco in any way. They graze on algae just to get the little critters(aufwachs) growing in the algae but they don't eat algae. They do have special tank and temperature needs. Hope that helps.

Re: ButterFly

We paid $50 for the bunch we rescued and there were 9 of them which I think comes out to about $5.55 each. The 8 I already had cost us a little over $6 each I think.
