PETA and other Animals

I'm rather disappointed in this animal rights group in particular. Sentimentality and reactionary responses are no replacement for scientific inquiry and research. Most of what I found on their sites was based on that. When last I checked, some mammals are herbivores, some carnivores and some omnivores, and we definitely have the teeth and digestive systems to be the latter. I am all for preventing unecessary cruelty to animals, for instance I don't believe lab testing cosmetic products on animals is kind or fair, nor do I like the way there are some zoos in the world that still are more or less prisons for creatures. However the veggie-nazi thing is offensive. I have to admit that I find the insistence on the term 'animal companion' irritating as well. I have been fond of almost all the pets I've ever had but they're not going to go to the movies with me, treat me to ice cream or offer to help me move some furniture. I wish that these people would focus rather on for instance making sure that only say fish tanks that enable domestically owned fish to thrive could be sold. (thinking for example of that town in Italy that outlawed goldfish bowls)

But I'm curious about whether anyone on here has had any positive experience with them.

Re: PETA and other Animals

I do not like a lot I see in most of the organizations of this type that have sent me literature, but keeping in mind that I am probably the one person I know who just might try to take their fish with them to the movies or anywhere else I went if I went that is. I consider them as family members and will freely admit to being a little crazy where they are concerned. But I also believe that groups of this type can and sometimes carry their causes to a degree that they can and do sometimes do more harm to the cause than good. The hard feelings that they cause with the way the arguments are stated far outweigh the forward movement of the problem solving that they hoped to achieve.

No, not everyone is going to go for a vegetarian lifestyle or a "let's be careful and not step on that bug" type situation. I truly am very sorry that the fanatics seem to always float to the top of such organizations. If they had more people with the feelings needed to support their cause, but a modicum of common sense; I do feel that they would get more accomplished. My opinion.
